Ishmael Sistrunk
Board Chair
Ishmael H. Sistrunk brings over 20 years of communications, media and technology experience to RBR. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Communications at Riverview Gardens School District in St. Louis, Mo. He spent a decade at The St. Louis American newspaper, earning accolades as an award-winning journalist and webmaster.
Ishmael’s passion is creative storytelling through technology. In addition to website management, he has proven experience in journalism, podcasting, video production, social media, community engagement and more.
He has worked closely with community leaders and organizations to advocate for education, civil rights, diversity, inclusion and equity. Ishmael has also partnered with healthcare agencies to help inform communities of color and facilitate events to fight the spread of COVID-19.
He served as a mentor and volunteer for community organizations including Books N Bros and GodFamBall. For his volunteer efforts, he was named a winner of the MLK Tribute Award by the Bayer YMCA in St. Louis.
